Disappointing news on the Northfield roundabout. Work is to start in January rather than this October.
There are 3 major roundabout junctions being upgraded with new traffic signal controllers and equipment: at the moment: Redmoor, Northfield and M1 Junction 14 at a total cost of £1.25m.
National Highways have asked the Council to do Redmoor first, and work is starting there for a period of 8 weeks. This decision was taken in order to avoid a clash with other planned National Highways work on the A5.
Northfield Roundabout will start as soon as Redmoor is finalised. The Council say that is likely to be in January 2026, with an implementation of 6 weeks. While there will be some disruption, they don’t anticipate this will be acute, as no new ducting excavations will be needed and the existing traffic signal poles can be re-used.
Once the adjacent M1 Junction14 roundabout is also upgraded in March 2026 and the signal control boxes at both roundabouts are linked together, the current queuing and blocking back will be reduced.
